MeluXina-AI and the Luxembourg AI Factory: status in 2026 and how to get access

MeluXina-AI is the AI supercomputer of the Luxembourg AI Factory, contracted on 22 July 2026. Here is what it offers and how firms and public bodies get access.

Key takeaways

  • The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking selected the Luxembourg AI Factory on 10 December 2024, with LuxProvide as host of the new MeluXina-AI supercomputer.
  • The EUR 80 million MeluXina-AI supply contract with E4 Computer Engineering was signed on 22 July 2026; the system has 1,008 NVIDIA GPUs at Bissen and Bettembourg, and installation is due to start in autumn 2026.
  • The AI Factory's advisory and support services, with Luxinnovation as entry point, have been running since 2025 and had supported more than 150 companies by 30 April 2026.
  • Access routes include free EuroHPC AI Factory access calls, LuxProvide's INITIATE and CASHBACK80 programmes, and the Fit 4 AI and SME Package AI subsidies.
  • No public price list for MeluXina-AI had been published as of 6 October 2026.

MeluXina-AI is the AI-optimised supercomputer at the centre of the Luxembourg AI Factory, which the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking selected on 10 December 2024 and which LuxProvide will operate at Bissen and Bettembourg. The EUR 80 million supply contract was signed on 22 July 2026 and installation is due to start in autumn 2026. The AI Factory’s support services, with Luxinnovation as the single entry point, are already open to companies, startups, researchers and public administrations in Luxembourg.

What the Luxembourg AI Factory is

On 10 December 2024 the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking selected the first seven European AI Factories, in Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Sweden. Luxembourg’s site is Bissen, next to the existing MeluXina supercomputer, with LuxProvide as hosting entity.

An AI Factory is more than a computer. It combines AI-optimised computing with advice, training, data services and links to funding. The Luxembourg consortium consists of LuxProvide, Luxinnovation, the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS), the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Associated partners listed on aifactory.lu are the Luxembourg Space Agency, the Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity, Technoport, DEEP, the LHoFT, the Digital Learning Hub and Clarence.

The declared focus sectors are finance, space, cybersecurity and the green economy. According to Luxinnovation, the aim is to help all economic players adopt AI within a “sovereign, responsible, secure and compliant” framework.

The system is designed for GPU-as-a-Service for several tenants at once, with container-based isolation, and for connections to external data platforms, cloud providers and other EuroHPC AI Factories. The AI Factory states that MeluXina-AI will be hosted in Tier IV data centres.

Status as of October 2026

The service side is running. On 30 April 2026 Luxinnovation reported that the AI Factory had been operational since 2025, offered 66 services in seven categories and had supported more than 150 companies, mostly SMEs. At that point it expected MeluXina-AI to go live at the end of 2026.

The hardware is not yet in production. The EuroHPC JU announcement of 22 July 2026 gives autumn 2026 as the start of installation. As of 6 October 2026 no confirmed date for production use had been published. Until then, the AI Factory points users to the existing MeluXina supercomputer, which is already available for AI workloads.

Funding

Paperjam reported a total budget of EUR 126 million: EUR 112 million for MeluXina-AI (EUR 80 million for acquisition and EUR 32 million for five years of operation) and EUR 14 million for the AI Factory over three years, with the EuroHPC JU covering half. The aifactory.lu website also cites EUR 126 million. Figures of EUR 80 million in other sources refer to the hardware contract only.

What organisations can use

The AI Factory groups its offer into six service lines: Assess & Accelerate, Upskill & Train, Connect, Fund, Build & Test, and Scale & Run. For MeluXina-AI it lists training of custom AI models, fine-tuning on private datasets, integration with data lakes and cloud services, and AI-as-a-Service for organisations at the start of their AI adoption, with support from LuxProvide engineers.

Public bodies are explicitly in scope. Luxinnovation names administrations and research organisations alongside companies and startups as target users. The participation of LNDS in the consortium links the AI Factory to the national framework for reusing public sector data.

Costs

As of 6 October 2026, neither LuxProvide nor the AI Factory had published a price list for MeluXina-AI. Time granted through EuroHPC access calls is free; commercial use of LuxProvide systems is agreed directly with LuxProvide, and the programmes above reduce the cost for eligible startups and SMEs.

What to do now

  1. Define one concrete use case and the data it needs, including whether personal or confidential data is involved.
  2. Contact the AI Factory via aifactory.lu for an initial assessment and a referral to the right service line.
  3. If the company is a startup or SME, check eligibility for INITIATE, CASHBACK80, Fit 4 AI or the SME Package AI before signing any contract or quote.
  4. For larger training runs, compare the EuroHPC access-call modes and their deadlines.
  5. Plan on the existing MeluXina system for 2026 and treat the move to MeluXina-AI as a later step.
